Documentation: Loot heatmap

Heatmap for DayZ Standalone: load mapgrouppos.xml (positions of buildings that hold loot) and, optionally, mapgroupproto.xml to filter by usage (Military, Farm, Police…). The tool draws the density on an adjustable grid, lists the most frequent buildings and exports a PNG image, entirely in your browser.

Open the tool

mapgrouppos.xml (in the mission folder) lists the position of each building group on the map; combined with mapgroupproto.xml, it decides where loot can spawn. This heatmap shows where it concentrates, useful to balance military zones or spot loot deserts.

How to use the tool

  1. Load mapgrouppos.xml (in the mission root, e.g. mpmissions/dayzOffline.chernarusplus/).

  2. Pick the map (Chernarus+ 15,360 m, Livonia 12,800 m) or enter the size in metres for a custom map.

  3. Adjust the cell size to smooth or detail the density.

  4. Filter by building name, or load mapgroupproto.xml to filter by usage.

  5. Export the image as PNG to share it with your team.

Reading the map

North is up; the X and Z coordinates of the <group pos="x y z"> tag are projected on a square map (height Y is ignored). Colours go from blue (few groups) to red (many); a 1,000 m grid helps orientation. No background image is included: overlay the PNG on an iZurvive map if needed.

Frequently asked questions

My file is large, is that a problem?
No: parsing happens in your browser and easily handles files with several thousand groups. Nothing is uploaded or stored.
Why is the usage filter disabled?
Usages are defined in mapgroupproto.xml: load that file in addition to mapgrouppos.xml.
