A VPS or dedicated server that is too small makes the game lag; too big and you overpay. This tool gives an order of magnitude from the slot count, with fully visible formulas you can correct.
How to use the tool
Choose the profile closest to your game and the target slot count.
Add a mods factor (1.5 to 2 for heavily modded servers) and the safety margin.
Refine the assumptions (base RAM, per slot, cores, disk, bandwidth) with your own measurements.
Compare the result with hosting offers; enter your unit prices to estimate the monthly cost.
Assumptions and limits
The four profiles are generic starting points, not official figures: no publisher publishes a universal per-slot formula. RAM = (base + per slot × slots) × mods factor × (1 + margin) + system RAM; vCPU = max(base cores, slots ÷ slots per core) × mods factor × (1 + margin), rounded up; disk = (data + backups) × (1 + margin) + system; peak bandwidth = slots × kbit/s per slot; monthly traffic = peak × occupancy × 30 days. Many game engines depend mostly on single-thread performance: for equal core counts, favour a high clock speed. Always check the minimum requirements published by your game's publisher.
Frequently asked questions
- Are these figures official?
- No. They are editable planning assumptions. Measure real usage (htop, logs, monitoring) and correct the parameters.
- Does my data leave my browser?
- No. The calculation is local; your settings are stored only in your browser's local storage.
