Miscreated offers a Windows dedicated server (SteamCMD app 302200) configured via hosting.cfg and launch arguments; on Linux it runs through Wine or Docker. The information below comes from host guides and the community since the developer publishes no detailed documentation: some points (ports, anonymous login) are flagged as to verify.
Step-by-step installation
Check the machine: 4 cores, 8 GB RAM, 30 GB disk (community estimate).
Download SteamCMD and create the server folder.
Install the server with SteamCMD: login (anonymous, otherwise a Steam account owning the game), app_update 302200 validate.
Start the server once, stop it, then edit hosting.cfg.
Run Bin64_dedicated\MiscreatedServer.exe with +sv_maxplayers, +map, -sv_bind <external IP>, -sv_port 64090 and +http_password.
Open ports 64090-64094 (TCP/UDP) in the firewall and on your router.
Test on localhost (127.0.0.1), then from outside using another network.
Schedule a restart: the server shuts itself down after 24 h at most (sv_maxuptime).
Configure auto-start (scheduled task or systemd service).
Schedule backups of MiscreatedServer and updates.
Requirements
No official figures are published: plan 4 cores, 8 GB RAM and 30 GB disk for roughly fifty players (estimate). Windows, or Linux with Wine/Docker. SteamCMD: app 302200 may require a Steam account owning the game (anonymous login failed for some); try anonymous first. Same client/server version.
Local install (Windows)
Install, then launch with the arguments below (replace the IP with your external IP; for a local test use the machine's IP). Connect from the game using 127.0.0.1.
C:\steamcmd\steamcmd.exe +force_install_dir C:\miscreated-server +login anonymous +app_update 302200 validate +quit
cd /d C:\miscreated-server
Bin64_dedicated\MiscreatedServer.exe +sv_maxplayers 50 +map islands -mis_gameserverid 1337 -sv_bind 203.0.113.10 -sv_port 64090 +sv_servername "My Miscreated Server" +http_password ChangeMe! +http_startserver port:64190Install on a Linux VPS / dedicated server
On Linux no native version is documented: a community Docker image (docker-steamcmd-wine, marked deprecated) uses host networking, hosting.cfg in steamapps/common/MiscreatedServer and a scheduled restart. Prefer Windows Server to stay within what is documented.
Ports to open
- 64090-64094 TCP/UDP: range used by the server (community Docker image); the game port is set with -sv_port
- 64190/TCP: HTTP RCON (example +http_startserver port:64190): do not expose publicly
Linux firewall (ufw)
On Ubuntu/Debian, allow SSH first so you do not lock yourself out, then the game ports.
sudo ufw allow OpenSSH
sudo ufw allow 64090:64094/udp
sudo ufw allow 64090:64094/tcp
sudo ufw enable
sudo ufw statusWindows firewall (netsh)
In an elevated PowerShell (or administrator “cmd”):
netsh advfirewall firewall add rule name="Miscreated 64090-64094/UDP" dir=in action=allow protocol=UDP localport=64090-64094
netsh advfirewall firewall add rule name="Miscreated 64090-64094/TCP" dir=in action=allow protocol=TCP localport=64090-64094Provider firewall and port forwarding (NAT)
If the server is at a provider (OVH, Hetzner, Scaleway…), open the same ports in its network firewall (“security group”). For home hosting, forward the ports (NAT) from your router to the machine's fixed local IP. Test from outside (mobile data or a friend): a test from your own network proves nothing.
Auto-start and supervision
Create /etc/systemd/system/<name>.service, then: sudo systemctl daemon-reload && sudo systemctl enable --now <name>. Logs: journalctl -u <name> -f.

Updates, backups and restarts
Stop the server, re-run app_update 302200 validate, then restart. Back up MiscreatedServer before any major update. Restart at least every 24 h: the server enforces this limit itself (sv_maxuptime, 12 h on a non-whitelisted server).
# backup
tar czf ~/backup-$(date +%F).tar.gz -C ~/server MiscreatedServerList and find your server
Once your server is public, add it on https://game-rank.com/jeux/miscreated (the owner's site) so players can find it, follow it and vote for it.
Troubleshooting
- Unreachable from outside but fine on localhost: the OS firewall, the provider firewall or the NAT forward is missing, or the protocol (UDP/TCP) is wrong. Check each layer one by one.
- Connection refused after a game update: client and server must run the same version. Re-run the server update, then restart it.
- The server exits immediately: start it from a console to read the error, and check free RAM, disk space and software prerequisites.
- The server fails to initialize since patch 1.18.x: add -sv_bind <external IP> (omit it only with Steam UGC content).
- The server name in hosting.cfg is ignored: use +sv_servername in the launch line.
Frequently asked questions
- What is the server's Steam app ID?
- 302200 (Miscreated Dedicated Server). Anonymous login may fail according to community reports; then use a Steam account owning the game.
- How do I update the server?
- Stop the server, then re-run app_update 302200 validate; client and server must run the same version.
- How do I access RCON?
- It is enabled with +http_startserver (port of your choice) and protected via http_password in hosting.cfg or +http_password at launch; a web RCON client connects to it. Keep that port private.
- How do I make my server known?
- Add it on https://game-rank.com/jeux/miscreated (the owner's site): players can find it, follow it and vote for it.
