Documentation: hosting.cfg generator

hosting.cfg generator for a Miscreated dedicated server with the variables documented by hosts (sv_motd, http_password, wm_timeScale, g_playerFoodDecay, asm_*, pcs_*, ism_*…) and their default values. Everything stays in your browser.

Last updated: 10/9/2026

Open the tool

Miscreated reads hosting.cfg in the server folder (MiscreatedServer): one variable per line, value in quotes, for example sv_motd="Welcome". This tool writes that file with the common variables and their default values.

How to use the tool

  1. Fill in the message of the day, the URL and a strong RCON password (http_password).

  2. Adjust weather, survival needs, AI, loot and corpse limits to your play style.

  3. Download hosting.cfg and place it in the server folder (MiscreatedServer) with the server stopped.

  4. Set the name, port and player count in the launch line (the “Launch script generator” tool), then restart.

Important notes

Since patch 1.18.x the server name is always the one passed at launch (+sv_servername): sv_servername in hosting.cfg is ignored. Some settings (g_gameRules_bases, sv_msg_*) are only described for whitelisted servers. Values and ranges come from host documentation (Citadel Servers): no exhaustive official list was found.

Frequently asked questions

Where do I put hosting.cfg?
In the server's install folder (for example steamapps/common/MiscreatedServer/hosting.cfg), next to the Bin64_dedicated folder.
Is RCON protected by default?
No: the HTTP/RCON interface started by +http_startserver is not password-protected until http_password is set. Set it and do not publish its port.
