Open the tool

An HLDS server for Counter-Strike 1.6 runs cstrike/server.cfg at each map change. This tool generates that file from a form; the proposed values are common ones, adapt them to your community.

How to use the tool

  1. Enter the name, the RCON password and, if needed, the join password.

  2. Set the rounds (mp_roundtime, mp_freezetime, mp_c4timer), money and friendly fire.

  3. Adapt the rates (sv_maxrate, sv_maxupdaterate) to your connection.

  4. Download server.cfg, put it in the cstrike/ folder and change map or restart.

Ban files

The file ends with exec listip.cfg and exec banned.cfg, which reload saved IP and SteamID bans. If those files do not exist yet, the server says so in the console, harmlessly.

Frequently asked questions

Where is server.cfg on HLDS?
In the mod folder: cstrike/server.cfg, next to mapcycle.txt and liblist.gam.
Are the values Valve's defaults?
They are common 1.6 server values, not an extract from the game: check them with the cvarlist command or by typing the cvar name in the server console.
