Documentation: mapcycle.txt editor

Generates cstrike/mapcycle.txt (one map name per line, without .bsp) from a free list: duplicates and invalid lines removed, shuffle option and choice of the first map.

Last updated: 10/9/2026

Open the tool

mapcycle.txt, in the cstrike folder, lists the maps played in turn when the time or round limit is reached. One map per line, no extension. This tool cleans your list and produces the file.

How to use the tool

  1. Type or paste your maps, one per line (a .bsp extension is stripped automatically).

  2. Pick the first map, or enable shuffle.

  3. Download mapcycle.txt and put it in cstrike/.

  4. Check that each map exists in cstrike/maps/ then change map to test.

Valid maps

Only names made of letters, digits, hyphens and underscores are kept. The tool cannot check that the .bsp file exists on your server: a missing map makes the map change fail. The “shuffled” order is fixed for a given list (no randomness).

Frequently asked questions

How do I change which rotation file is used?
With the mapcyclefile cvar (default mapcycle.txt), for example mapcyclefile mymaps.txt in server.cfg.
Is my data sent anywhere?
No, everything stays in your browser.
