The Neverwinter Nights dedicated server is driven by command-line options. This tool assembles them for Linux (nwserver-linux) or Windows (nwserver.exe); the options mirror nwserver's built-in help. Each option's default value is not officially documented: leave "—" to omit it.
How to use the tool
Choose Linux or Windows and enter the exact module name (placed in the modules folder).
Set name, port (5121 is the usual one), slots, levels and passwords.
Pick the rules (PvP, ELC, ILR, difficulty…) or leave "—" to keep the module's behaviour.
Download the script, make it executable (chmod +x) and run it from the server's bin folder.
Option values
Per nwserver's help (collected from Beamdog forums, not an official page): -pvp 0/1/2 = none / party only / full; -difficulty 1 (easy) to 4 (very difficult); -servervault 0/1 = local / server-stored characters; -elc and -ilr 0/1 enforce legal-character and item-level restrictions; -autosaveinterval in minutes (0 = disabled). -adminpassword is not offered (unused per that help).
./nwserver-linux -module MyModule -servername "My NWN server" -port 5121 -maxclients 32 -dmpassword ChangeMe! -publicserver 1Frequently asked questions
- Where is the official list of options?
- nwserver prints its help when given an invalid option (for example -h). A community reference exists on neverwinternights.info (same list for NWN 1.69 and EE according to forums). Always verify on your build.
- Why does my server not show in the public list?
- Add -publicserver 1 and check the port (usually 5121 UDP) is reachable from the Internet. According to forums you also need a dedicated IPv4 with port forwarding.
